Verification & Certificate Lookup Policy

This Verification and Certificate Lookup Policy explains how ProofLookup verification results should be understood.

1. What a Lookup Result Means

A lookup result means that a record matching the searched code, QR code, or link may exist in ProofLookup or in an issuer-connected system. It does not automatically prove that the underlying document, product, person, issuer, claim, transaction, or item is authentic, lawful, current, or complete.

2. Issuer Responsibility

The person, company, brand, school, organization, manufacturer, seller, event organizer, or administrator that creates a record is responsible for the accuracy, legality, authorization, and completeness of that record.

3. Public and Private Records

Some records may be public, while others may require a code, link, QR code, password, administrator access, or other permission. Public records should not include unnecessary private, sensitive, or confidential information.

4. Record Statuses

Records may show statuses such as valid, active, expired, revoked, suspended, pending, replaced, archived, invalid, or not found. These statuses are informational and depend on data provided by the issuer or administrator. A screenshot of a previous lookup result may no longer reflect the current status.

5. QR Codes and Printed Certificates

QR codes, printed certificates, labels, stickers, packaging inserts, and documents may be copied, damaged, altered, photographed, or misused. A QR code alone does not prove authenticity. Always review the full lookup result, issuer details, product details, dates, and context.

6. Independent Verification

For important decisions, contact the issuing organization, seller, school, employer, manufacturer, certifier, regulator, or responsible party directly. Do not rely solely on ProofLookup for legal, financial, medical, educational, professional, safety, or high-value transactions.
